Escher Like Quilt Class

Julia McKagan, a Wisconsin quilter, is offering a one-day class, April 15, on creating a quilt reminiscent of MC Escher’s designs. She combines bright colors and a play of light, medium and dark values to create the type of illusion Escher painted.  Small dark triangles create a 3D affect.  No Y-seams make this simpler than it looks. Julia began quilting when she was 16 and has eclectic interests.  She comes to Santa Fe annually to visit family.

Art Quilt Class Offered

Ann Ferkovich offers Ferkovich It, a class that offers techniques to use in creating unique art quilts. Throw out the rules and make it your own way! Ann will point you in the right direction.

Clothing & Bag Classes

Frankie Shirt, with Lorraine Gruys, is an attractive loose-fitting shirt/blouse and works well for both casual and formal events.  Sew Together Bag, with Regina Boyer, is a great bag with zippers for sewing supplies, pens or jewelry.  Her Poppins Bag is oversized and can use large prints or digital panels for striking effectiveness. Cindy has I’ll Drink to That Wine Carrier, which holds 4 bottles or two bottles and two glasses to carry to your picnic site or a friend’s house.

Louise Heine’s popular Cell Phone/Travel Purse is back.

Use your favorite fabrics, zippers five seams and you’re done!  The pattern is provided in class.

More of Our Spring Lineup

Le Adams has Triangles, Strips, Design which uses strip sets and triangles to help you create your own design.  Squares and Scraps, also with Le, is a fun way to use your scraps.  Focus on Frida (Kahlo), with Geri Rodriquez, uses our Mexican style fabrics to create a lap quilt.  Capiz Lantern, with Louise, for intermediate quilters, includes interesting curve cuts as does her Twirl, which uses a curved ruler. Deb Martinez is back with Usagi, a Japanese style quilt with a bunny theme, and French Braid, which creates a stunning quilt!  Ringie Dingie is Mary’s new quilt or wall hanging class that requires attention to detail with sewing and ironing. Care to learn more about mixing colors?  Try Mary’s three-part Color Class. Sue Clarkson has Baby Cactus, an appliqué quilt or wall hanging, Nicole Dunn is back with Clamshells, which uses a large fusible pattern to make the quilt go faster.

Template Free Motion Classes

Cindy continues to offer Template Classes and has room for a couple more students. No new introductory class will be available until July.  Those of you who have graduated or currently are taking the classes, may want to sign up for her Template Ruler Bag Class and learn how to create a large bag to separate and keep your rulers.

A Variety of Hand Classes Offered

Sashiko, the Japanese hand thread work class, is offered by Lea Armstrong.  Cindy Barfield has Hand Applique, Hand Quilting, Hand Piecing and English Paper Piecing.

New Fabrics Arriving Every Week!

Our latest fabrics include lots of batiks and more coming from Hoffman, Robert Kaufman, Island Batiks and Batik Textiles.  Just in are new patriotic fabrics, stars on black fabrics and even more tiny white-on-white stars. Frida Kahlo fabrics used for clothing are now fully stocked in red, turquoise and pink in our Southwest section.  We recently restocked our wool fabrics too.

Quilt Mysteries and Other Books

Just in time for summer we have stocked up on some great Quilt books. These murder mysteries take place in the Northwest and a small quilt group seems to be able to solve each one. Along the way family issues arise and squabbles occur. The personalities are quite charming, or irritating, but very real. There are several books in this series written by Arlene Sachitano. Some of our regular quilt books include Karla Alexander’s Dynamic Quilts with Easy Curves and Celebrate Wool Applique.

Cindy Adds to Our Notions

Our Notions Department is part of Cindy’s domain and she is always looking for new items.  Recent ones include Kai Seam Rippers for borders and edges and Pen Blades for detailed appliqué or stencil cutting. They come in three sizes.  Stash-N-Store is a long narrow tool holder to keep your tools at your fingertips.

New Patterns Available Now!

Just in from Maple Island are Diva and Cool Corners.  Lavender Field and Baby Cactus Appliqué are in too. You will find new patterns in a basket on our lower cutting table.
