Meddling with Metal! (2009)

Oh! What a class! We had such a good time that we decided to share with you what we did in this class. It was taught by Kay Sutt. She was inspired to do her piece and to work with metal in Heather Thomas’ Design Class that began last year. We are so grateful that she did! She did all the research and found all the tools and metals and with her knowledge we had the best time! It is a class you don’t want to miss! Some of us were “stuck” and some were just looking to play and some of us left there wondering how can we add this to our next project!

Here are some of the pictures from the class.

Vicky Puller’s metal project
Lee Meyer’s metal project
Donna Smith’s metal project
Toni’ Bolton’s metal project
Lamey’s metal project
Cheryl Trostrud-White’s metal project
Cindy Barfield’s metal project Burning metal

Then we made some more metal designs and painted them and burned them! Yes you read that correctly! We burned with flame and heat guns! You can not beat the tools that come with this class! You also can’t believe that we were working on copper and how gold and shiny it comes out after you burn it!

Then there was painting on metal. We used a dye that Kay told us to buy for class and tools that came in our kit. We had the most amazing time using the tools and seeing the changes to our metals. The kit comes with a variety of metals to choose from in class. Time is your only demon, because you really don’t want to quit working. We couldn’t learn from Kay fast enough!

Sewing on metal! Yes! It was so true! You can actually sew on this metal with your sewing machine! Use a variety of threads and apply your metal to your quilted art work. Or use thread as a design element! It was the most amazing thing to watch your machine sew on metal!

We thought it only fair that we show you the piece that started all the hoopla!

This piece was created by Kay Sutt and it hangs in our store.

The whole project had to be made out of metal for the design class.

Here are some detail shots:

Coneflower Class (2009)

This is a wonderful class for the quilter who wants to get something done in class. It is one piece of fabric, no piecing and no applique. You use stencils to create this masterpiece! You don't even need to know how to paint. It just works. A wonderful class to take with a friend. When you leave class your top is complete. All you have to do is go home and quilt it.

Here are some pictures from the latest class we had. Some wonderful students, don't you think?

Come and join the fun!
