Techniques and Skill Building
Beginning Machine Piecing - Mary - Learn to piece with a ? inch seam, proper cutting, ironing and sewing techniques. Hand Appliqué - Cindy - Learn the basics of hand appliqué, the right tools and procedure for this beautiful skill. Take time this quarter to learn how to do basic hand appliqué. Take the Japanese Block of the Month classes this quarter for hand applique classes. See BOM section.

Playing With Embellishments - Cindy Barfield - This is a fun way to learn all about the new tools for embellishing wall hangings, art quilts or clothing. Learn to Paper Piece - If you want to learn Paper piecing sign up for the Paper Piecing Block of the Month. We can provide a simple pattern to learn and then you are ready for harder patterns.

Advanced Design Class - Heather Thomas - This design class will meet every other month on the Friday before the Color class. Heather teaches you so many wonderful new techniques this is really worth your while. You need to have taken the color class before taking this. Only 6 classes and 6 projects. Piece of cake! “New” Year Long Color Class - Heather Thomas - This is the start of a new year long color class that meets on the third Saturday of the odd numbered months. Do several color exercises throughout the year, monochromatic, complementary, analogous, triadic, tetradic, and more. Understand values, temperature, luminosity, line and talk about quilting ideas. Every class brings new information. This is a big commitment but you learn a lot about yourself and what you like and don’t like by the end. Creating Stencils (terrain) and Shiva Oil Stick Landscapes - Heather Thomas - This is a new class with Heather that will teach you to create a landscape design, design your own stencils for the piece and then start making it with the fabulous Shiva oil sticks. 2008 Block of the Month (BOM) Classes
What is a Block of the Month? You work on only one block each month and then set it aside. This builds your skills without overwhelming you. Other classes listed above focus on finishing a quilt in a two week or month period. Many of these classes you can join late so talk to Mary or the teacher if you are interested in starting now.
Trip to Japan - Mary - This series of blocks is follow many different pathways. We began with indigo and cream and various shades of blue doing traditionally pieced blocks. We have done Sashiko for May, Jun, July and start Applique in August, Sep and November. Piecing again in October and December. Any one can join any time to learn sashiko, applique or piecing. Third Friday: Jul 18, Aug 15, and Sep 19, 9-12; or 4th Saturdays, Jul 26, Aug 23, Sep 27, 9-12; Fee: $21.00 per session.
Hand Dyed Paper Piecing & Carol Doak Paper Piecing -Jean Callaghan - This beautiful quilt come in two color way kits: pastel or autumn jewel tones. You can choose your own fabrics and just purchase the pattern. Beginners are welcome as there is a quick learning curve. Start any time. Afternoon with Laura Hyatt Scrap Quilt - Laura Hyatt - This is a scrap quilt that involves a lot of piecing of various sizes, quarter square triangle and many traditional blocks. You also get to learn from the master. If you have never had the pleasure of spending time sewing with Laura then this is your chance. You remember what you love about quilting. Build confidence. Santa Fe Triptych - Kathy Tolbert - This BOM is attractive and geared toward beginners. Not too many difficult pieces but great design concepts. Learn about color as you choose your fabrics for the next block. Pick colors you want in your house because you will hang this. Small enough that you can machine quilt it yourself with confidence. New Round Robin Borders of the Month - Deb Martinez - Join this class to add a border to something you have already made or start something new and learn a series of borders that will help you create more interesting quilts. You will learn two different borders each month. Stop when you get to the size you want. You will choose your size, colors, and arrangements.
