The following is a list of classes for this quarter. Skill building technique classes are on the first page, then new projects followed by date of offering and the last section is the Block of the Month classes available now.

Techniques and Skill Building

Beginning Machine Piecing - Mary - Learn to piece with a 1/4 inch seam, proper cutting, ironing and sewing techniques. Make two quilt tops and learn half square triangles. Bindings - Mary - After you have finished your quilts, you want to learn to do mitered corners that are sharp and joining techniques that leave no lumpy seams in your binding. Sat, Apr 20, 2-5; or Mon, May 13, 2-5; $21

Machine Applique - Mary - Learn the basics of a proper satin stitch, pivoting on corners, smooth outside edges. Learn what your machine can do. Mon, Jun 3, 2-5; $21

Hand Applique - Cindy - Learn the basics of hand applique, the right tools and procedures for this beautiful skill. Tips about special glues, freezer paper, marking pens that might help. Sat, May 4, 9-12; $21

Hand Quilting - Cindy - Learn hand quilting techniques from an expert. Start a small piece and improve your skills. The tips Cindy gives you will help you in so many future projects. Wed, Jun 5, 1-4; $21

Free Motion Quilting - Deb - Learn the basics of free motion, doodling on your quilts with thread, and building your skills. Students will learn a variety of stitches and then go home and practice and practice. Sat, Apr 6, 9-12 or Mon, May 13, 9-12, or Mon, Jun 17, 6-9; $21

Just Stippling - Cindy - Work only on the stippling stitch to build skills. Cindy has great hints to help you be successful. Take this with Free Motion to build your skills. Fri, Apr 19, 9-12, or Mon, Jun 3, 9-12; $21

Paper Piecing - Mary - This is a beginner or refresher course on the basics of paper piecing. Start easy. Build your confidence toward getting sharp points. Wed, April 10, 1:30-3:30; $14

Simple Curves/Wavy Table Runner or Bed Runner - Mary - This is a little challenging but not hard overall. The undulating sides of this table runner or bed runner make it a memorable addition to your home. Mon, Apr 15, 1-4; $21

Mitered Borders on Your Quilt - Cindy - Bring your quilt top and the fabric you want for borders and Cindy will help you attach mitered borders, however many you want.Wed, Apr 17, 1-4; $18

Slideways - Cindy - This can be a great “guy” quilt if you are looking. Bold look, strong colors. Try theme fabrics as well. Easy and quick. Fri, Apr 26, 1-5; $28

Floorboard and Nails - Kathy Tolbert - This is a new pattern for Kathy. Strong statement and clean lines. Try ombre fabrics for this. Beginners welcome. Guy quilt possibilities. Sat, Apr 20, 9-1; $28

Whacking Wedges - Nicole - - This is a fun exercise in building your own quilt to your own size. Carefree cutting, a little planning and a cute quilt. Many print possibilities. Good for beginners. Tues, Apr 23, 12-3; $21

Curved Cut Placemats - Cindy - Make gentle curves for the placemat. Beginners will have no problem. Great batting to make it sturdy. Wed, Apr 24, 1-4; $21

Your Inner Star - Deb - A little challenging but not too. Great look for a quilt. You’ll have fun picking colors. It looks harder than it is. Beginners welcome. Sat, Apr 27, 1:30-5:30; $28

Urban Cabin - Deb - Use your leftover fabrics!  Pick a border fabric and then select from your stash for the blocks. Very quick and easy. Sun, Apr 28 1-5; $28

Many Ravens All Day - Ann Ferkovich - This wall hanging triptych is a great first step to art quilting, creative designs in a small space and free motion quilting as you go. Make a small or large project. Great fun, gives you confidence. Mon, April 29, 10-5; $42

Sliced Flower Panel - Mary - Use any panel but our sample is from the Camelot Flower series. Great use of the Shenandoah pattern to start a quilt or make a simple wall hanging. Easy and fun. Tues, April 30, 11:30-3; $15

Vest 101 - Lorraine Gruys - This Diane Erickson vest can be made a variety of ways but rayon is Lorraine’s fabric choice here. Learn to work with rayon and have a unique vest. Fri, May 3 & 10, 1-3; $42

Pillow Pizzazz - Cindy - Sometimes a simple project to help us practice our quilting stitches is just what we need to do. This is an attractive and modern look with colors that brighten the look of the pillow. Utility stitching or sashiko style stitching. Mon, May 6, 1:30-5; $25

Fabric Head Bands - Cindy - Great way to cover head bands new or old. Fix old or change new ones. Make them out of your fabric, embellish them, or make them in colors you always wear... A great gift, easy to learn. Fri May 10, 9-11; $5

Rolled Pillow Case - Mary - Learn to make a pillow case in a roll (tortilla) to save time when sewing. Tues, May 14, 12-2; $5

French Braid Table Runner - Deb - Deb has developed a pattern for a quilt as you go table runner that is quick and easy for beginners or experienced quilters. Make this for you. Wed, May 15, 1-5; $28

Off Centered Log Cabin - Mary - This is a modified log cabin with many variations. We will discuss and draft them for you to sew. Beginners welcome. Thurs, May 16, 12:30-3:30; $21

Wedge Ruler Circle Quilt - Sharon Cook - Make stripes or bargello style lines in a circle using the long wedge ruler and have a circular quilt or table topper. Sat, May 18, 10-1; $21

Meddling with Metal - Kay Sutt - This is a lot of play and perhaps a small project in the last hour to apply your skills. Learn to work with various metal, brass, tin, copper and some ways to color/bleach and distress them. Additional fee for kit with metals and some equipment, tools sold separately. Sun, May 19, 1-5; $28

LeMoyne Star- Stack-n-Whack Stars - Jean - Try this version of stack and whack to make a stunning kaleidoscope star block. The pinning and cutting are the trick. Jean’s recent one is outstanding. Sat, Jun 1, 9-4:30 with lunch break; $49

Memory Quilt Wallhanging - Julie Filatoff - Do you have a treasured photo (or two or three) that you’d like to turn into a quilted wallhanging?  We’ll take that photo, print it on fabric, and integrate it into a small memory quilt.  We’ll discuss fabric selection, embellishments and mementos, and methods to hang your quilt (traditional and alternative).  Sun, June 2, 1-5; $28

Cheddar No Crackers - Jean - This is a quick and fun baby quilt from the Modern Quilt movement. Find a focal fabric. Beginners will like this. Tues, Jun 4, 9-12; $21 

Milly’s Groovy Strip Pieced Jacket - Milly Young - Make an attractive sweatshirt jacket that is stylish and comfortable. Lots of fun, great results. If you haven’t made a sweatshirt jacket before try this class. Tues, Jun 4, 1-4 and Jun 18, 2-4; Fee: $35
Zia Quilt - Kathy Tolbert - Primary and secondary patterns give you two looks in one. The Zia imagery and a flower. Easy paper piecing for corners. Great impact and clean design. Fri, Jun 7, 1:30-5:30; $28

Mitered Borders on Your Quilt - Cindy - Bring your quilt top and the fabric you want for borders and Cindy will help you attach mitered borders, however many you want. Sat, Jun 8, 9-12; $21

Free Form Log Cabin - Ann Ferkovich - This is a new twist on a log cabin block with 5 sides. Foundation pieced. Challenging. No lines to follow but it still works. Sun, Jun 9, 1-5, second class date to be set by class; $42

Time After Time - Deb - This a great use for strip packages or cut strips from your stash. A nice combination with the Drunkard’s path templates. Use as much distortion as you like. Tues, Jun 11, 9-12; $21

French Braid Obsession - Mary - The French Braid is easier than it looks, it’s the math that can slow you down. In two sessions we should be able to get it under control. It’s fun to choose the color runs. Wed, Jun 12, 9-1 and Jul 10, 9-12; $42

Churn Dash - Kathy Tolbert - In our series of learning a traditional block each quarter Kathy will teach you the Churn Dash or Monkey Wrench quilt block. Thurs, Jun 13, 1-3:30; $16

Free Motion on Panels - Nicole - Make a small wall hanging and learn tips from an expert on how to free motion quilt it to it’s advantage. Great practice for developing your skills. Any panel can be used. Fri, Jun 14, 9-1; $28

Times 3 - Jean - Use larger pieces of fabric you want to showcase: oriental, halloween, Christmas, floral. It all works. Quick and fun quilt using your stash. Fri, Jun 14, 1:30-5:30; $28.

Curved Cut Placemats - Cindy - This class is a little longer so that we can make the table runner too. Make gentle curves for the placemat. Beginners will have no problem. Great batting to make it sturdy. Sat, Jun 15, 9-1; $28

Melding Metal & Metal Paint Into Your Artwork - Kay Sutt - The follow up to the first metal class. Learn to use metal and metal paint. This 4-hour class will teach you about oxidizing metal paint & rust dying fabric. Begin designing a project to successfully incorporate all your metal skills, using collage, paint, recycling & multi-media techniques. The follow-up class will solve problems, answer questions and help you to finish your project. Students will set date for 2d class. Sat, Jun 15, 1:30-5:30; $28 for first class.

Patriotic Star Quilt - Nicole - Build your Fourth of July quilt collection by trying this out or make one for Quilts of Valor. Easier center, challenging border. Tues, Jun 18, 9:30-1:30; $28

Cranberry Chutney - Mary - Quick easy and versatile. This is fun to use a color way you really like and add some interesting accent colors. Beginner’s welcome. Wed, Jun 19, 1:30-4:30; $21

Funky Monkey/Churn Dash - Mary - If you learned the traditional churn dash last week it’s time to let loose and get rid of the rules, or at least most of them. Fun, quick a great way to use your stash. Fun for a baby quilt or throw. Thurs, Jun 20, 1-3:30; $16

Making a T Shirt Quilt - Cindy - Time to deal with that stack of T shirts you have been ignoring. Cindy will show you simple and reliable methods for fusing and getting your blocks ready. No sewing, some fusing. Fri, Jun 21, 9-12; $21

Ocean Frolic - Deb - Spoil a new born with this adorable baby quilt or wall hanging. Happy happy. Machine applique moves this along. So cute. Sat, Jun 22, 9-1; $28

Cross It - Louise - This is a “why didn’t I think of that quilt”. Fun use for strips. Generous borders help to make it any size. Dust off your strip sets. This will work with most. Sat, Jun 29, 2-5; $21

Block of the Month (BOM) Classes

NEW ! Fiesta Mexico - Carla Beene - Various techniques in hand applique will be used during the making of these blocks. Using Karen Kay Buckley’s Fiesta Mexico pattern you will make some of the easier blocks before taking on the more challenging ones. Take Cindy’s hand applique class before this if you are new. April 5, May 3, June 7, 9-12; $21 per class.

Trip to Japan - Mary - One group is in the final months, someone just started. We’re open to newcomers. Make the blue and white quilt with applique and sashiko. Stunning. Calming. Fri, Apr 19, Thurs, May 30, Jun 21, 5-8pm; $21 per session.

NEW! Two Bucks a Block - Thangles - Cindy and Mary - We precut strips for your blocks. Each month we talk about how to construct the block in two colorways, Autumn and Ocean Breeze on the first Friday of each month at Noon. If you pick up your block and pattern during the first 10 day of each month your block is $2. After the tenth your block is $5. If you are long distance we can mail your block with a CC on file. Classroom location reminder. Our classroom is located in the same archway as Tico’s so go that direction for class. If you cannot make a class you must give a full 48 hours notice in order to get a refund or store credit.

Free Group Meetings at Store

NNMQG Stitch In - This is the Guild stitching group and is open to everyone. Mostly handwork. Every Thursday, 10-12;

Stitch - Ins and Applique - Bring your hand/machine work, bindings or cutting, applique. These two groups are merged for the winter and will all be from 4-7 pm Stop by and chat. Every Thursdays 4-7, except 5th Thursdays.

Crazy Quilting - This group focuses on crazy quilting but any hand work or cutting will do. April meeting at Guild Retreat, April 14 ($5 fee), May 19, Jun 23; 10:30am-1pm, Free

Quilts for Soldiers/Quilts of Valor - Generally, 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the Month - Come and sew blocks to make quilts for service members. Open to all, 9-12.

X Block How To - Nicole - Nicole will show you how to convert squares to unique shapes in a rearranged quilt. Fun and easy. Tues, Apr 16, 11-12.

9 or 10 Degree Wedge Ruler - Sharon Cook - Sharon will demonstrated a wedge ruler and give you some ideas on how to use them in quilts or with scraps Fri, Apr 19, 1-2

Curved Piping - Ann Ferkovich - Adding little touches to a quilt can make it more interesting. Ann will demonstrate Susan Cleveland’s piping in curved seams. Wed, May 1, 1-2 or Saturday May 4th 1-2.

Zentangles - Deb - Zeb will explain and demonstrate how you can use Zentangle concepts and mix print and stitches to make a wall hanging or quilt. Mon, May 27, 11-12:30

TAP DEMO - Kay Sutt - Sat, Jun 22, 1:30-3:30. Transfer Artist Paper for transferring images to all sorts of surfaces. This is amazing to see. It is magic to see this process. Sign up across from register. Free.
