The following is a list of classes for this quarter. Skill building technique classes are on the first page, then new projects followed by date of offering and the last section is the Block of the Month classes available now.

Techniques and Skill Building

Beginning Machine Piecing - Mary - Learn to piece with a 1/4 inch seam, proper cutting, ironing and sewing techniques. Make two quilt tops and learn half square triangles. Hand Applique - Cindy - Learn the basics of hand applique, the right tools and procedures for this beautiful skill. Tips about special glues, freezer paper, marking pens that might help.Wed, Jan 25, 9-12; or Thurs, Feb 16, 6-9; $21

Hand Quilting - Cindy - Learn the basics of hand quilting from an expert. Start small and improve your skills. Fri, Feb 24, 9-12; ; $21.

Free Motion Quilting - Mary - Learn the basics of free motion, doodling on your quilts by starting small and building your skills. Students will learn a variety of stitches and then go home and practice and practice. Fri, Jan 27, 1-4 or Wed, Feb 15, 6-9; or Sat, Mar 3, 2-5, $21

Just Stippling - Cindy - Work only on the stippling stitch to build skills. Cindy has great hints to help you be successful. Take this with Free Motion. Mon, Jan 30, 9-12; Wed, Mar 21, 6-9; $21

Paper or Foundation Piecing - Mary - Learn the basics of paper piecing. Quick to learn in person. Just reading instructions is nearly impossible. Fri, Jan 13, 9-11; $15

January Surprise - Switchbacks - Kathy Tolbert - This is the highest vote getter in our Monkey Survey. Patterns are now available at the store. Easy sewing, some unusual cutting for the background but great effect. Sun, Jan 1, 9-4; Fee: $42

French Braid Table Runner - Deb - This is a quilt as you go table runner that is quick and easy for beginners or experienced quilters. Make this for you or as a gift. Sat, Jan 7, 9-1; $28

Cogwheels - Julee - Popular still, this is a simple but effective quilt that goes together quickly. Beginners welcome. The black and white with bright florals really sets this off. Kits available. Fri, Jan 13, 12-4; $28.

19th Century Quilts and Civil War Quilts - Janet Henderson - Our Ft. Worth traveler has a passion for 19th century and Civil War quilts. She shares that interest with you with some antique quilts and some she and her group have made. Sun, Jan 15, 1:30; $5

Frida Purse - Janet Henderson - This is a great look with the Frida Kahlo fabric and the rose accessory just makes it. Not too hard. Mon, Jan 16, 9-12; $15

Seriously Decorative Machine Embroidery - Ann Ferkovich - Ann is at it again using her unique style to push our talents and sewing machines to the max. Use a variety of thread, make all sorts of shape, add them to pieces, frame them. Anything’s possible. Mon, Jan 16, 1-4, $21.

Southwest Seminole Table Runner or Scarf -Deb - This is a great look for a Spring scarf or a table runner. Small bits of seminole make this quick to complete. Choose colors for that you love. Great for a gift. Tues, Jan 17, 9-1. $28.

Demo - How to draft a 12 inch block - Mary - Learn to use graph paper to draft your own design or calculate measurements for a traditional design. Free. Fri, Jan 20, 1:30-3:30. Sign up.

NM Colonial Embroidery ( Colcha) - Marcia Rodda - Begin a specific project in this class. Marcia will have several motifs to choose. Get started. Apply the skills you have. 2d class to be determined. Sat, Jan 21, 1-4; $21

Bits and Pieces Silk Table Runner - Nicole Dunn - We all have them. Those left over pieces that are too nice or too big, yet small, to throw away. Now Nicole helps us turn our scraps into an interesting and stylish table runner. Sun, Jan 22, 12-4; $28

I Can’t Believe It’s a Sweatshirt - Jean - This is always a fun class. Update a sweatshirt with great fabrics of you own choosing and taste. Quick, easy, comfy. Wed, Jan 25 & Feb 8, 1-4; $42

Transfer Artist Paper (TAP) Demonstration - Kay Sutt - If you like family photos, collage, distressing things, decorating surfaces you will love this demo. Images are transfers to cloth, glass, metal, wood, tile, all with different effects. Very cool. Sat, Jan 28, 1-3; Free

Glitzy Aprons - Lillie Sandoval - This two sided apron can be dressed up in very unique ways to make it as stylin’ as Santa Fe allows. Create your own unique apron via fabric, glitz, roses, doo dads. Great fun. Great way to use Our Lady fabrics. Sun, Jan 29, 1-4:30; $25

LeMoyne Stars - Jean - This is the Stack n Whack procedure for stars. Once you learn the pinning and cutting you will love how well it pulls together. Thurs, Feb 2 (1-5) & 23 (1-3); $42

Ruffled Purse - Beverly Williams - Cute, elegant, wow, fun. There are so many words to describe this fun purse with clever ruffles. Bev will share her tips on how to sew more efficiently while making this purse. Pre cut to maximize class time. Fri, Feb 3, 12-4; $28.

One Block Wonder Encore - Julee - This is fun and easy to cut up and then it gives you a headache trying to find the perfect arrangement. And yet we have to try it... Sat, Feb 4, 9-1; $28. 2d class to be determined.

Free Embroidery Demonstrations - It’s National Embroidery Day and several embroiders will show you some basic and complicated stitches plus samples of their work. You need sign up to get them to show up. Small prizes for those who attend. Sat, February 4, 1:30-4.

Super Bowl Sunday - Switchback - Kathy Tolbert - This stunning design has been popular so we are having it again. You might have a quilt top in time for start of the commercials...er, the game. Sun, Feb 5, 9-4; $42

Many Ravens All Day - Ann Ferkovich - For a change we are doing this class all in one day. This wall hanging triptych is a great first step to art quilting, creative designs in a small space and free motion quilting as you go. Make a small or large project. Great fun, gives you confidence. Sat, Feb 11, 10-5; $42

Zentangles - Deb - Discover a new way to play on your machine.  Zen Quilting, the inevitable evolution of zentangle doodling with pen and paper, is a fun way to create items like coasters, pot holders, hot pads, or stunning wall hangings and even whole cloth quilts.  Basic free motion class is a pre-requisite. Mon, Feb 13, 9-12; $21

Mondays with Mary - Beginners on a Budget - There is a lot you can learn on the internet but sometimes you want to talk to a real person about how something really should be done.This is a meeting/class to discuss questions, try different sewing techniques that you are interested in. You will help decide what we do. Where to start as a beginner, what projects what classes, design your own, discuss what you’ve seen on YouTube. Must be 40 and under. Mon, Feb 13, 6-8; $10

Ribbon Weave - Jean - This kaleidoscope like method takes the least amount of fabric for a stack n whack type quilt. Good first time experience. Thurs, Feb 16, 1-5 & Mar 15, 1-3; $42.

Child’s Chicken Apron - Jean - This new set of patterns are so cute. Make an animal apron for your favorite toddler. They won’t mind wearing this “body bib”. Fri, Feb 17, 1-5; $28.

Design Challenge - This is a group assignment with no featured designers. It has a different twist that can be executed on paper or fabric. See “The Hedgehog” movie at The Screen. Good for piecers, free motion quilters, art quilters. Everything can work. Bring a pot luck snack. $10. Fri, Feb 17, 6-7:30.

Cutting Curves Demo - Louise & Julee - We all worry about how to cut curves and sew them. Learn their simple methods to build your confidence. Free. Sat, Feb 18, 12-1. sign up.

Tatting - Heather Cook - Learn this old fashion thread knot method for creating lace-like trims for table runners, crazy quilting blocks, collars, sleeves. We have learned this sometimes takes more than one class so come as often as you need for beginning and continuing work. Sun, Feb 19, 1:30-4:30; $21.

Wave Bed Runner - Louise - Using curves with fabulous fabrics you make a great bed runner to keep your regular quilt cleaner and still have a stylish bedroom. Mon, Feb 20, 9-12, $21.

Funky Stars - Mary - This is a fun pattern for breaking the piecing rules. Make a quick and unusual baby quilt. Tues, Feb 21, 6-9; $21

Cogwheels - Julee - Popular still, this is a simple but effective quilt that goes together quickly. Beginners welcome. The hardest part is choosing the fabric. Kits available. Sat, Feb 25, 12:30-5:30; $28.

Coneflower Paintstik - Cindy - No sewing only paintstiking. Use one piece of fabric and make this incredible wall quilt. Samples show the warm and cool color tones. Beginners welcome. Mon, Feb 27, 1-5, $28

Pillows with Punch - Pat Randall - Learn from an expert how to make small or large decorative pillows for room accents or sitting upon. A covered cord with make the look complete. Sun, March 4, 1-5; $28

Paper Piecing with Flannels - Le Adams - You can choose any simple straight line foundation (paper) pieced pattern and Le will share tips on how to work with this sometimes difficult fabric.  Check out the large array of flannels in the shop now. The display quilt is Stepping Stones and done in the Stonehenge line. Sat, Mar 10, 9-12; $21

Mondays with Mary - Beginners on a Budget. This is a continuation of what started in February but you can join in now. See February description. Mon, Mar 12, 6-8; $10

Square in a Square Quilt - Jean - I never get tired of this pattern and Jean’s use of color in this one is delightful. Beginner friendly. Wed, Mar 14, 5:30-8:30; $21

Jalousie - Julee - Yet another quilt using great fabrics and having a wow effect. Pick a large print or seasonal print and add the accent colors. Good for beginners. Fri, Mar 16, 12-4; $28.

Drunkard’s Path - Mary - Learn to sew the easy curves of a drunkard’s path quilt. Great for baby quilts or large quilts. Sews together quickly. Beginner’s welcome. Sat, Mar 17, 1-4; $21

Strip Quilting with Scraps/Strips and a Great Ruler - Mary - Cut your own strips or use your packages of strips with a background fabric. There are hundreds of orientations for the blocks you make. Cut your own squares or use a specialty ruler to speed up your cutting time. Fri, Mar 23, 1-4; $21.

Advanced Many Ravens - Ann Ferkovich - Once you have done Many Ravens you are ready to revisit cutting and setting sashings. Ann has added new ideas for making quirky and arty borders as well as curved cutting to make a great wall hanging. Sun, Mar 25, 9-4; $42

Meddling with Metal - Kay Sutt - This is a lot of play and a small project in the last hour to apply your skills. Learn to work with various metal, brass, tin, copper and some ways to color/bleach and distress them. There will be a kit fee for various metals that will be provided. Sat, Mar 31, 9-1; $28

Block of the Month (BOM) Classes

A Block of the Month program gives you the ability to make only one block each month, to not stress about finishing a quilt immediately, to learn new techniques or improve existing ones and to be able to work on other projects during the month. Classes vary from 3 months to 12 months. We have various start dates and personalities of quilts so match yourself to the quilt design that suits you and your goals for the year.

Trip to Japan - Sue Ripley - This quarter is the sashiko phase of this BOM. If you are interested in learning sashiko then take these classes. You don’t have to be in BOM. Sun , Jan 29, 10-1; Sun, Feb 26, 1-4; and Mar 18, 1:30-4:30; $21/class.

Mariner’s Compass - Deb - There will be a brief and free intro/discussion of this class in February to help you think about colors and begin planning your quilt. Classes begin in March. Skill building throughout the class. Sun, Feb 12 Intro 12-1pm; or Tues, Feb 21, Intro 12-1; Class begins Sun, Mar 11, 10-1 or Tues, Mar 20, 10-1 $21/class, approximately 7 month duration.

Building Blocks - Jean & Carla - This is a class focusing on skill building, using templates, building confidence in piecing. You will make 12 blocks during the year, either 9 inch or 12 inch size, and then at the end of the class you can choose from four different settings for your quilt to make it unique. Thur, Feb 9 and Mar 8, 1-4 or Sat, Feb 18 & Mar 17, 9-12; $21/class

Talavera - Mary - This beautiful quilt of Michelle Watts uses machine applique of beautiful Mexican Talavera art. 4th Saturdays, Jan 28, Feb 25, Mar 24, Beginners welcome. Skill building in initial classes. 9-12; $21/class approx. 7 month class.

William Morris Hand Applique - Cindy - Using either of two Michele Hill patterns celebrating the Arts and Crafts Designs of the late 1800s and early 1900s you can make a beautiful quilt with designs from another era. Not for beginners. Thurs, March 15, 5-8; $21/class, 7-8 months.
