The following is a list of classes for this quarter. Skill building technique classes are on the first page, then new projects followed by date of offering and the last section is the Block of the Month classes available now.

Techniques and Skill Building

Go into the RED door with a “C” for Classroom for all classes. For night classes go to the back door.

Beginning Machine Piecing - Mary - Learn to piece with a ¼ inch seam, proper cutting, ironing and sewing techniques. Make two quilt tops (patchwork and rail fence) and learn half square triangles. 3 classes per session. Section 1: Sun, Jan 10, 24 and Feb 7; 5:30-8:30; Section 2: Fri, Jan 22, Feb 5 & 19; 10-1; Section 3: Fri, Mar 12, 26 & Apr 2, 9-12; Fee: $50.00

Hand Appliqué - Cindy - Learn the basics of hand appliqué, the right tools and procedure for this beautiful skill. Learn how to do basic hand appliqué. Tips about special glues. Section 1: Wed, Feb 24, 1:30-4:30;Fee: $21.00

Hand Quilting - Cindy - Work on your own quilt or work on small practice bats that you have prepared. Cindy knows so many great tips and pointers. Section 1: Fri, Mar 5, 10-1; Fee: $21.00

Free Motion Quilting - Mary - Beginners start here. Work on your skills and learn some basic exercises to develop free motion techniques. Then practice, practice, practice. Sec 1: Tues, Jan 19, 2-5; Section 2: Tues, Feb 16, 6-9; Section 3: Sun, Mar 7, 1-4; Fee: $21.00

Bindings - Mary - This is the best way to get a smooth binding with mitered borders and no lumps. Laura Hyatt’s method is what we use. Bring in quilted placemats or a scrap quilt sandwich so you get lots of practice. Section 1: Mon, Jan 25, 5-8; Section 2: Thurs, Feb 25, 1-4; Fee: $21.00 Call for evening class.

Just Stippling - Cindy - We introduced this last quarter and it is a great success. Focus only on stippling. Where are you coming from and where are you going? Cindy will have you practice for an hour on a sample sandwich initially and then you will start on your own quilt. Wed, Jan 27, 1-3; Sat, Feb 20, 2-4; $14.00

Phinney’s Ridge - Melody Griego - Everyone should start a new quilt on New Year’s Day! This is a good one for using scraps in a certain color way with some focal fabrics to pull it together. Pre cut and you can really go to town in class. From the Batik Gems book. Friday, January 1, 9-4: NEW YEAR’S DAY

Meddling with Metal - Kay Sutt - Kay has done her research and dabbled with metal. She is sharing her knowledge with us. This is a lot of play and no end project is contemplated. Learn to work with various metals, brass, tin, copper and some ways to color and distress them. There will be a kit fee for various metals that will be provided so that you don’t have to spend hours on the internet looking for things. Sat, Jan 2, 1-5; $28.00

Godzilla Quilt Bag - Jean - Make this incredibly large and highly functional bag that will take all your supplies to class or hold a king size quilt. Learn to do grid marking for machine quilting. Mon, Jan 11 & 25, 9-12; $42.00.

Million Pillowcase Sew in - We will have a pattern available by Jan 1 and it will be posted online. Stay home and sew or sew here. Use up some of those fabrics you wonder about. All pillowcases made will be given locally. There will be a hand out at the front desk explaining this project and on our website. Program lasts all year; several free patterns are available. Wed, Jan 13, 10-3. Stop by for an hour. Free.

One Line at a Time Quilting Sampler - Cindy - Using the techniques from One Line at a Time quilt book you will learn new free motion or straight stitches. This will be a sampler of many different quilting designs. No marking of your quilt. Learn to use “inchies” and other products for new looks for your quilt. Fri, Jan 15 & 29, 10-1; $42.00

Cherie - Melody Griego - This is a simple quilt and easy for beginners but looks great when done. Free download pattern to use. Use a feature fabric to fussy cut and coordinates and wow! Easy too. Sat, Jan 16, 2-5; $21.00

Emerald Forest - Jean - This is a strip quilt that moves quickly using the Bali Pops. Beginners welcome in this class. Stunning effect after a few hours of work. You can use your stash and also have a great result. Sunday, Jan 17, 1-5; $28.00

Scott’s Surprise - Quilts of Valor -Mary - Another Loose Change quilt. Easy but a little challenging for squaring up. Done in red, white, blue and black; it is great fun. Donate your finished quilt to Quilts of Valor and class is free. Keep your quilt and you just pay the regular fee; Mon, Jan 18, 1-5; $28.00 unless donating.

Unleash Your Creative Beast - Holly Altman - Make the leap into more exciting and imaginative quilting. Explore the elements and principles of design. Juice up your inventiveness with fun exercises. Make a project with these skills. Small project per class. Three sessions over three months. Why does a quilt work? Beginners welcome. Thurs, Jan 21, Feb 18, & Mar 18; 10-1; $ 65.00 (Week-day class). Come Fly with Me - Deb - This is a cute quilt with enhancements of rick rack. Kites flying are always a fun look for the young ones. Good boy quilt. Sat, Jan 23, 10-1; $21.00

Red. Red. Red! Color Class - Ann Ferkovich - Bring 3 red things: fabric, thread, yarn, beads, paper, paint chips, etc. A color that means passion, romance and danger is a complicated color. Discussion will be on the color, its moods, how to achieve the look you want. Folk lore meanings as well as your own stories will add to the class This color will be good therapy for these cold, short days., Sat, Jan 23, 2-5 pm. $21.00

Bluebirds in the Garden - Julee - Use focus fabrics, add origami flowers and 3 D flying geese and you have a recipe for an interesting wall hanging. Your design will be unique and dimensional. Make blocks then do your own arrangement. Wed, Jan 27, 9-1 Fee: $28.00

French Braid - Deb Martinez - Choose a quilt or a table runner to learn to make this interesting style of piecing. Easy piecing and cutting. Fri, Jan 29 & Feb 19th, 1:30-5:30 1st class; 1:30-4:30 2d class; Fee: $49.00 Pre cut strips on the Go! Cutter.

Drawing for Fiber Artists - Diane DiMaria - This is a three session class. You will learn to draw people, places and things using a simple technique that works easily for beginners. This will train your eye and improve your ability to draw and create original works. Learn the grid technique and successfully develop drawing and composition skills. Discussion will include line, value, edge work composition. Between class 2 & 3 you will create your own fiber piece. Sat, Jan 30, Feb 13 & March 13; 10-1, $65.00

1st Class Shirt - Lorraine Gruys - This is a Lois Ericson pattern that is flattering to many women. You can use a focus fabric on one side of the front for added drama. Easy pattern. Comfortable. Sat, Jan 30 and Feb 6; 2-5; Fee: $42.00

Mish Mash - Julee - This is a great pattern for scraps but works best with all those screaming fabrics that want to come out and play. Julee will help you plan your color lay out in class. Easy to sew, fun to see it come together. Wed, Feb 3, 10-2; Fee: $28.00

Yo-yo Animals - Deb - These fun animals take a little work for head and tails but what a great result. Choose any of three animals to make for a relative or friend. First class focuses on body parts and starts you on yo-yos with the Clover maker or without. 2d class assembly. Thurs, Feb 4 (5-8) and 18 (5-6); $28.00 You can precut some of these circles on the Go! Cutter.

Emma, A Girl’s Dress - Sharon Wirtz - This is quite the fun dress for any girl who likes fluff and frills. Use some of Patty Young’s new line or pick fabrics that suit your child’s personality. Feb 6, Sat, 10-1:45; $28.00

Many Ravens Landscape: Bending the Rules of Technique and Design - Ann Ferkovich - Use raw-edged machine appliqué and a simple no-seam approach to build a simple landscape. Choose a design for the landscape, make a pattern, and select fabrics. In class 2 you will assemble them and learn how to make a corded edge. You will also learn about embellishments and alternative sizes. Sun, Feb 7 & 21, 10-1. $42

Among the Leaves Crayon Technique - Mary - Pick any of several patterns to learn this technique and learn to “dye” fabrics with crayon ink then embroider the edges. You can bring a coloring book design if you prefer. Easy. Great fun for you and for some of your children. Tues, Feb 9, 2-5; $21.

Abraham’s Log Cabin - Cindy - Celebrate Abe’s birthday with this basic pattern block that everyone should learn to make. Great cutting practice. Fri, Feb 12, 10-1; $21. (Precut strips with Go! Cutter on Wednesday, Feb 10, from 10-11.

Go! Cutter Strip Cutting - Mary - Demo and use: Bring your fabric and use the go cutter to cut 2 1⁄2 “ strips after a demo. Get hand out for preparation requirements. Fri, Feb 12; 3-5pm in store.

Creative Collage - Lisa Hale - Make a beautiful floral wall hanging with fusing. Bring in all those tempting textures of corduroy, velvet, silk, threads with bumps and turn that clump into a stunning welcome to Spring. Beginners welcome. Sat, Feb 13, 1:30-5:30; $28.

Sensu (Fans) - Jean - This is a lovely wall hanging or quilt using orientals or regular fabrics. The piecing is cleverly done to look difficult but is easy. Sun, Feb 14, 1-5; $28. We will set a second class if it is necessary.

Beyond the Block Sampler - Deb - This is a great way to learn a little of everything using primarily one fabric. Based on her entry for the Georgia O’Keeffe challenge you will learn Kaleidoscope, paper piecing, Seminole piecing and planning for a small wall hanging. Good for beginners who are ready for a challenge. Mon, Feb 15 & Mar 15; 10-1, $42.

Coneflower Paintstiks - Cindy - This is a new pattern that will help you focus on your paintstik shading skills. Kits will be available of the correct paintstiks needed for class. Stunning result. You may not want to give this away. 1st time paintstiking is fine for this. Mon, Feb 15, 1:30-5:30; Fee: $28.00

Yellow Brick Road - Sandy - This pattern has become a classic and is great fun for a baby quilt, lap quilt or large quilt. It seems to work with every group of fabrics so have fun choosing. Tues, Feb 16, 9-12; $21.

Floral Bouquet - Melody Griego - The irrepressible Melody has created another wonderful quilt for you. Floral Bouquet made with strips is a great quilt for beginners or experienced quilters. You can use the Go! Cutter to cut your strips in advance of class. We will have a sheet explaining that. Sun, Feb 21, 1:30-5:30; $28.00

Million Pillowcase Challenge - Adding a ruffle. This will be coordinated with the Sewing Center of Santa Fe next door and will probably be in both classrooms. Look for a sign in each shop. There may be a date change. Hand outs. Deanna will demonstrate how to make a ruffle. Free. Feb 26 all day, stop by for an hour or two or sew at home.

Hello Yellow! Color Class - Ann Ferkovich - Yellow can be a happy color but also one of warning. We are happy that the days are getting longer and spring is coming. February is almost gone when we meet. Bring 3 yellow things. We will study its use, historic significance, its power. Ann is looking for butterflies and warblers at this time how about you? Sat, Feb 27, 2-5: $21.00

Drunkard’s Path - Mary - Use our templates of any size and make a child’s quilt, lap size or king. Easy. It’s the arranging of the blocks that will drive you crazy. If you want to do strata, talk to Mary a week ahead of class. Fri, Mar 5 & 19, 2-5; Fee: $42.00

Simple Joys of Spring - Marianne Udell - Make this simple embroidered pillow to welcome spring. Easy piecing and excellent instructions on embroidery. Sat, Mar 6, 10-1; $21.00

Rayon Jacket - Jean - This is new pattern that Jean found and the jacket is rayon. Brush up on your sewing skills with that slippery but beautiful fabric. Sun, Mar 7 & 21, 1-4 Fee: $42.

Just Pockets - Lorraine Gruys - This class is for fun. Making a jacket or vest with clean lines is no problem but how do you dress it up to be one of a kind? Add great pockets!. This class uses ideas from Diane Ericson’s pattern by the same name. Some of these methods can be adapted to collars and sleeves. Tues, Mar 9, 10-2, $28. bring snack (Lorraine will not release you!)

Bowman’s Beach - Mary - Using the Caribbean fabrics from Stonehenge with the desert fabrics you get this attractive quilt using the ever popular Ohio Star block. Wed, Mar 10 & 24, 9-12; $42.00

Oasis - Melody - This is a version of Boston Commons that looks great with the Stonehenge fabrics or any combination that you like. Lots of strip piecing. Sun, Mar 14, 10-2; Fee: 28.00 2d class to be determined.

Stack n Whack-i-pedia -Jean - This is a mystery to all of us. Jean’s out of town and will give us more information in January. Look for a picture by February 1 on our Web site. This is from Bethany Reynold’s last book. If you like Stack and Whack you will like this project. Friday, Mar 19 & Apr 2, 10-1; $42.

Cinnamon Stick Triangle Meeting and Distribution - Glee Wenzel and Jane Parker Rodenz - Today you will receive back the same number of triangles that you sewed for this challenge. Glee and Jane will have repackaged the triangles. They will lead a lively discussion of possible triangle quilts and projects that you can choose. Bring ideas to share of possible uses of triangle in quilts. Sat, Mar 20, 1:30 pm Free.

Blue Skies and Blue Moons Color Class - Ann Ferkovich - New Mexico’s gorgeous sky will begin this discussion. But is the sky really blue? What about shadows, flax blossoms, jays, water? Why is being sad called the blues? Is the color cool or exciting? As (if?) spring is really here, it is time to get out and start looking at the sky and all things blue. Bring 3 blue things. Summer Pear - Marianne Udell - This is a simple beginning hand embroidery pin cushion or object that is quite sweet and elegant. Great gift. Mon, Mar 29, 12-3; $21.

2010 Block of the Month (BOM) Classes

A Block of the Month class meets once per month and takes usually 12 months to complete. Some classes are shorter in duration. Your skills build over the year without becoming overwhelmed by a project.

New! Beginner Block of the Month - Cindy - This is a great 10 session class for learning about BOM, building your piecing skills and having only 9 blocks to complete before the finishing class. New! Bag of the Month - Mary & Libby - There are so many great bags on the market today that you need an organized plan to make them. We will do a different bag each month and you can use them for yourself or stockpile gifts or give them to the Guild gift shop, whatever. Different skills to learn each month. Hop To It - Laura Hyatt - A beautiful old fashioned but slightly modernized appliqué quilt. Beginners welcome to this class from our award winning teacher. You can join this any time. Saturday, Jan 16, Feb 20, and Mar 20; all classes 10am-1pm. Fee: $21.00 per class plus book

Crazy Quilting with Deb - Deb Martinez - Crazy quilting continues and you can start this month. This will be a mixture of hand and machine work. Hand embroidery, machine piecing your fabric choices, beading, lace, silk ribbon and on and on. Use family photos, vacation pictures, old clothes, who knows. This is a very relaxing class. Sun, Jan 24, Feb 28, and Mar 28, 10-1 or Thurs, Jan 21, Feb 18, & Mar 18, 2-5; $21 per class. This class will meet as long as interest exists.

You must give notice of non-attendance a full 48 hours before class. If you fail to do so there are no refunds for any reason as we have to pay our teachers regardless of your attendance.
